What metadata can reveal
A photo can carry GPS latitude and longitude, camera and lens models, device serial numbers, capture dates, author names, copyright notices, editing software, comments, and XMP or IPTC fields. Those details are not visible in the pixels, but they can travel with a JPG, PNG, or WebP when you email it, publish it, or send it to a client.
How browser-based cleaning works
This cleaner works inside your browser. It reads supported metadata locally, decodes the visible image, and creates a fresh image file instead of copying the original metadata containers. The cleaned output is inspected again before download. File bytes, filenames, previews, and detected values are not sent to our server.
How to remove the metadata
Use the Photo / EXIF tool for JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP files up to 25 MB. Inspect first so you can see whether GPS, camera, date, creator, copyright, software, comments, or other recognized fields are present. Then remove the metadata and wait for the verification result before downloading the new copy.
- Inspect: Read recognized metadata locally and group it by privacy relevance.
- Remove: Re-encode supported photos or rewrite supported PDF metadata structures.
- Verify: Parse the output again before enabling a verified success state.
Verification and important limits
Re-encoding can change file size, compression, color profiles, or dimensions. Animated WebP becomes a still image, and HEIC, AVIF, and GIF are not supported in this release. Verification only covers fields recognized by this parser; it cannot prove that every proprietary or platform-side record has disappeared.
Choose the right cleanup workflow
Use the PDF Metadata Remover for document properties and catalog XMP. For AI-generated images, use the AI Metadata Remover to inspect C2PA markers, digital-source fields, and PNG generation parameters. Always keep the original separately until you have checked the cleaned image visually.
